Sony seems to be pushing this "metal gear solid 4" pretty hard. I've never heard of it. How does it compare to COD4?

it's completely different...metal gear solid has always been a tactical espionage game meaning you have to use lots of stealth and accuracy to accomplish your missions..they have a very deep storyline and you have to have the patience to be able to play and get into it...
metal gear solid came out on the NES first, and then it made it huge when it launched on ps2 with metal gear solid 2 and 3...it's a great game and worth playing if you can dedicate the time to it...
i hear this new one has 90 minute cutscenes in it, and takes about 20 minutes to install before you can even play it...
seems more and more games are leaning towards movies in the way they are presented and played...90 hour cutscenes = zzzzzzzzzzz if you're not a fan...if you skip you're liable to miss a gigantic chunk of the story...
some reports are coming out that they makers of metal gear solid 4 are asking game reviewers not to mention the long ass cut scenes so that gamers wont be turned off by that...
it should be a great game though, and finally a game worth buying a ps3 for...that and gran turismo 5 if it ever comes out...not that gay ass prologue teaser
fuck you steve before you say anything...that was pure unbiased real gamer opinion...eat a fat dick if you think otherwise...

I've played the older versions, and I like COD better. They say this new release is supposed to kick COD4's ass, but I will have to play it and see.

Call of Duty 4 has a stronger multiplayer than single player...it's the real reason it's such a great game, if it was single player only or had a weak system it would not be nearly as good and no one would be playing it except for die hard fans of the series...
they are totally different kinds of games so it's hard to say that one will beat the other...although this new Metal Gear game has a multiplayer as well that seems to be just as detailed as it's single player game...it's going to be hit or miss when it comes out as far as multiplayer goes, but you can count on the single player to be topnotch and a definite system seller for Sony...
This might just be the game that I end up buying a PS3 for, or I might still wait for Gran Turismo and Killzone 2 to come out instead...

If you can get it for the deal that Doug posted , it would be a steal.

yup...that's what I'm pondering...
499 for ps3 with dual shock and mgs3...and then 100 bucks back to me so i can buy another controller...hmmmm???

nah...I'll do it when I get back from Japan and finally get my 1080p tv... by then the PS3 will be 300 bucks and the XBox 720 will be coming out :)
I figured the game had to be something 'good' to get a special edition bundle. I'd want a backwards compatible PS3 so I can play my 3 PS2 games.
I'm reading the 80 was discontinued. Costco only has the 40 with RSV2 and an extra controller for $499. Is there a replacement for the 80 or are they abandoning the larger HD/backwards compatibility?
MSG4 would need solid multiplayer to sway me.

I don't have any more ps2 games so the backwards compatibility is nothing to me now...I'm just waiting for the best possible deal to get one

My ps3 is the first batch made. I assume it is compatible with ps2 games. I don't have any of those anymore.

the original ps3's are backwards compatible...20 and 80 gig models I think?
after that they started cutting stuff out of them to help make the price cheaper...if I can find a used 20gb model for cheap I'm getting it!
