allow me to introduce my highschool comparison to this...

when a senior male (V8's) hooks up with a freshman chick (Honda's, Nissan's, Mazda's...so on and so on)...it's normal, so no one makes a big deal about it, you just tell ur buddies and chalk her up to the list

now...when a freshman male (Honda's, Nissan's, Mazda's, so on and so on) bangs a hot senior chick (V8's)...well it's the greatest thing to happen all year, and other freshmen share in that one guys pride, and feel better about themselves and think that maybe they to have a chance...so the balance of life is restored when they attempt to, and get shot down and made fun off by all the other seniors, juniors, sophomores, and even some freshmen that were smart enough to know that, just because one guy did it, it doesn't mean you can as well...

thank u for your time

ah, but you see... there are many times where the seniors are real pompous pricks with their head up the ass. This often times leads them what we freshman call senior tunnel vision. The condition leads many the poor senior to be surpassed, owned, ridiculed, and laughed at by the rest of society. Because afterall when the seniors graduate to the next level (college), they are freshman once again.

The point: When American companies can finally compete in modern day international competition with the Japanese and European counterparts, then they'll be considered on par.

so what exactly were we arguing here...American cars vs the world...American society vs the world...American sports vs the world...American (Domestic) vs what again???

I was referring to our cars, the cars on our boards that we currently own...not the car your friend has, or the car that you saw on the internet...I'm talking about the actual cars, registered under our names, that we in fact have the keys for and can get together with and race...

that's what I was referring to...yes though, you are right...American car makers have a long way to go to catch up to the Imports...but I don't agree that they have a long way to go to catch up to Japanese car makers...not in the performance level anyways...as for sales...well then yes...Japan is reaming us royally as we speak...but the US has never had to catch up to Japan performance wise...it's always been the US fighting with Europe over performance dominance...and Japan came in and joined the fight way after it had already started...but sadly are still stuck in 3rd place

please don't change the subject halfway when you lost an argument...it only makes you seem like a whiny lil girl when you go from starting an Import > Domestic thread, get your point taken away, and then switch it to the overall state of car manufacturing

You didn't quite mention what you were talking about in the first place (personal cars, race cars, global cars, etc), you only make references to vehicle makes. And considering the thread wasn't started by me nor does it make references to any of the personal cars owned by people on this board, I fail to see your point on where you were referencing personal cars of the the people on this board

I didn't purposely change the subject, I merely replied in the humorous approach you took to your post, which caused you to get all butt hurt about it. What am I to do? You calling names is more juvenile than me being a "whiny lil girl", which btw I don't recall me ever complaining or mentioning that imports are god's gift to mankind. there are 3 types of people in this world...dicks. pussies, and assholes.

pussies dont like dicks because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes. Assholes that just want to shit on everything. Pussies may think they can deal with assholes their way. But the only thing that can fuck a asshole is a dick, with some balls. The problem with dicks is they fuck too much or fuck when it isn't appropriate. And it takes a pussy to show them that. But sometimes pussies can be so full of shit that they become assholes themselves. Because pussies are an inch and half away from assholes. I don't know much about this crazy crazy world, but I do know this. If you don't let us fuck this asshole we're going to have our dicks and pussies all covered in shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what exactly do domestic cars need to catch up to jap cars? what quantifiable factors? no "oh man i saw F&F and eclipses are rad!" type bullshit, but real tangible aspects of a car.

Blue3vGT

I'd like to know that as well.

My car is very nicely equipped and has had zero problems since I bought it.

BLITZ35

Making raw power edge definitely goes to domestics. They say nothing beats displacement, right?

If you pair up a 03-04 Mustang Cobra against a 350Z or G35 or RX-8(yuck) or what have you, Cobra wins all the time. Period.

But sometimes you buy a car for more reason than 'my-car-will-smoke-you-each-and-every-time-we-race'. I think most people buys cars after making a careful consideration as to power-comfort-affordability-reliablity-and more. If I could own more than one car, heck i'd definitely get one for the road and other for straight up blowing doors off other cars. And if you're one of these guys, good for you. You earned it. But for the rest of us(me included), I do more driving stuck in traffic then i'm not, I do spend more time sitting inside the car than showing it off at shows, so I have to consider other things.

So that's why I bought my car, not a 350Z, cuz it has better amenities than a 350Z yet comes with pretty much identical drive train/suspension. So, if i had to stuck in traffic, i won't have to suffer too much from sqeaking hard plastic interior, yet if i wanted to go a bit faster, it's not a total slug either.

This is just my opinion but when i sit in a domestic cars, the material they use for the interior is just not as high quality as imports. So are the fit-and-finish. Granted, i've set in many domestic cars, Ford, Chevy & Dodge and others, and they are making a very good effort to improve these qualities.

But when i hear my girl friend's sister's 2002 Chevy Tahoe making all kinds of squeaks and rattles, it just brings a frown to my face. Sure, initial quality is great but will it stand the test of time? Looking at the 2006 Tahoes and the siblings, the interior design is really attractive. But I was once more put off by the quality of the material. Too much plastic. Not enough vinyl. Even in Cadiallac Escalade. The story was the same. More domestic cars fail at this than imports. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying import cars are built perfect and they never squeak or rattle. They most certainly do, but still not as much in numbers as domestic cars.

I hope these things get fixed. But I know they are getting better.

I want in!! I had a 2002 Maxima!! I had:

1) Hood wobble
2) Door rattles
3) Pinging engine on 91 octane
4) Broken accelerator
5) Rear door wind noise

Shit....That car went through at least 4 Nissan recalls when I owned it. My 06 GT has had 0 recalls and besides one rattle which I just need to fix (and I can, I just need the right part) there has been nothing wrong with it.

i didn't say Japanese cars were perfect....Nissans had their own quality control issues too. But to that, my 2000 rarely ever had any problems with that. All the problems were pretty much my own creations...

I had to visit a dealership 2 times in almost 5 years and close to 135,000 miles. Once for a failed alternator and the other time for replacing a reverse light sensor.

Hondas and Toyotas usually fair better than Nissans, Subarus and other Japanese makes.

With anything, there are exceptions and averages. My '02 Maxima has been pretty good in terms of repairs. But having a kickass extended warranty helps. Other than shitty wheel bearings and stuck rear calipers, most of my repairs have been fairly inexpensive and ones that were covered under my powertrain warranty as well. Currently at 85k miles. ok, i'll be the first one to admit it. I hate Nissan paint. Shit load of orange peel from OEM paint. Even Hyundai Sonata now gets a primer dip. Nissan needs to do a little better on their paint quality. Black Nissans/Inifintis are the worst offenders.

Well, thank you for being thorough and polite in your response. Good grief is that hard to come by nowadays.

I think I can only count 2-3 times where a import has pulled off a domestic like that in a video (and its usually because it was heavily modified). Yes, everyone makes a big deal about it and yes, it is quite pathetic at times. Its kind of the David vs. Goliath factor (yea, we won!)

As for arguing about which car is better, that's just beating on a dead horse. Every car has its pros and cons. Its hard enough dealing with Nissan vs Honda or Ford vs. Chevy!

The good thing about these threads is that I always learn/see something new. That was how I learned about the Mach1, when I got my ass handed to me on the highway because I couldn't tell the difference (then gio laughed his ass off when I confirmed a Mach1 picture he posted up) - and the funny thing is that I never really race either, but it was just one of those days

I'm a nice guy...rarely do I start drama or take anything personally...unless you say or do it in person...

yeah...I knew about Mach's in high school when my friend had an old school one...back in high school I was really into imports cause they looked better and everyone had one...

but the day I went for a ride in my friends 70 something Mach was the day I chose speed over looks or bling...

I get ragged on alot by my lil brother's friends who race other Mustang guys with V6's that talk more shit than Beau does and constantly hand them their ass...but it got very old after a month or two of constant stupid shit talk so I called out their fastest guy, a dude in a very nicely built civic with a b16 that I was actually a lil scared of...

called him out in front of his friends, saying hey I'm tired of the shit talk...you can talk shit about anyone u beat, but don't say shit about me until you either beat me, or see my time slip is slower than yours...so we raced...needless to say I don't hear shit from him anymore...3 bus lengths will do that to a guy you know

Interesting how the pics were taken before they passed you. No doubt a Mustangs can pass some cars, but Porsches and 360's at 10/10th's, hardly. Would take a lot of mods, while the others are stock.
Cool pics anyways.

Sorry to dissapoint you. I was in front of those cars.

In drag racing, they would rape me. On the road course, I did pass them and stayed in front of them. Road Racing is all about the driver, the car doesn't mean shit.

I've passed many cars on the track that would kill me in a straight line acceleration contest. However, add turning, braking, and accelerating, and now the car doesn't do it all for you. The driver's skill has more to do with being faster, than the car being driven.

Thats pretty impressive... a Stang outbraking, out handling, and out accelerating a Ferrari Modena on a track. Lets get some in car videos!!

No, it was a driver outbraking, out handling, and out accelerating another driver. A more daring driver could take that Modena to faster lap times. But a Mustang guy isn't losing $200k if he stuffs the car into a wall.

No, that just means you need to take a driving school to learn how to use it!

yeah...tell me about it. I once passed this C5 Corvette at the Willow Springs. I was in my 00 Maxima. I thought I was seeing things. My Maxima would have been raped by that Corvette on a straightaway. Somehow that guy never caught up.

But it gets to a point where the car's limited ability surpasses all driver skill

focus have good stock suspension. and a super stiff chassis. i can three wheel my car around corners and i only have springs and almost blown struts.

yea its all in the driver.

Not really. But, if you know how late you can brake (and how little) and the perfect angle to hit the turns, you can carry a higher exit speed AND get on the throttle sooner.

Drag racing: faster car = winner
Road Racing: faster driver = winner, car doesn't mean much

The only reason I could pass the Viper and Ferrari is because I was braking later and on the gas sooner. Yes the car could kill me, but the driver didn't know how to drive it on a track.

Just having speed isn't enough. If you're turning too early or too late, you lose speed or go off track. It's all about the driver, not the car.
