I was just curious where you guys look for rentals. I know about the classifieds in the papers and craigslist. But what about realty offices? Would they have any rentals or maybe know of people that want to rent?

i think most realtors have listings of the homes for rent in the area.

It depends on the area. Where are you looking to rent?

I'm trying to stay in Teirrasanta. At least until the kids finish out the school year next summer.

Tierrasanta is expensive right AFAIK.

> $2,000 for a decent house. I know that 1100 sq foot home rentals in santee are around $1,700.

I know it's not a cheap place to live, but the wife and I like it here. And I really don't want to move the kids mid school year. I did that as a kid and it sucks. I don't want them to go through it. And when/if I make it into the Border Patrol we'll find a place that's a little more permanent. We've actually started talking about moving to Yuma.

1100 sq/ft? That's tiny for a family of 4.

Try looking in the UnionTrib, SDReader, and Craigslist, Bob. Be sure to ask the owner how long they've been renting the house. If it is 1-2 years, be cautious as they may not be in a good position on the house (i.e. they were planning on flipping and now they are stuck with it and renting at a loss...)

Ok. I'll check the history too. Tracy just found a house in Tierrasanta for $1000 a month on craigslist. So they're may be hope.

1k? it must be a dump or a rental while it sells...

How did they ever do it in the 1700-s all the way through the 1970's when McMansions started showing up?

Looking at my own house ( 1368 ), it's plenty for a family of 4. I suppose if I buy my kids $35,000 worth of toys I'd need more space.

Not sure. I have enough trouble in 1300sq/ft by myself.

Perhaps in the 70's people were permitted to park their car in the driveway or the street and use the garage for storage. Fortunately, now we have HOA's which tell everyone what to do with the house they 'own'.

I park 2 in the garage, 1 in the driveway, and 1 on the street!

djc
04-25-2008, 06:27 PM
oh, well if you park 2 in the garage, you're allowed to park in your driveway!

Don't get me wrong, a larger house is always nice, but I sure don't need one. I'd just fill the rooms with expensive hobbies I only visit once or twice per year.

djc
04-25-2008, 06:29 PM
isn't that the point?

EvilC

I've got $30k into the home theater and watch 1 movie per week! It's saddening. No more hobbies for me.

How often do you drive your terminator?

GummyBear

my hobby sits in the garage. 12 more payments and she's all mine. Sadly, i only drive it 2 or 3 times a month, if that.

djc

2-3x a week. why?

A lot of it is how the size is used. Our first apartment in El Cajon was 900sq-ft. It was tight for us and got even tighter after Nick was born. I'm not sure how big the house is that we're currently in, but I wouldn't go any smaller then what it is. The bedrooms are way to small and the kitchen isn't much better. I would imagine 1100sq-ft is tight, but if there isn't much wasted space, it might work. And it doesn't take $35,000 in toys to run out of room. But the time you add in a feeding chair, extra dishes for the little one, all the little shit to keep them busy while you try and do housework, etc., you can see why you'd want a place with a little extra room.

oh. why? does janet work up here?

Kloogy

No, she works in Oside. But My boss lives in Fallbrook and our office is based out of his home. My next big project is in most likely hood going to be in the Long Beach area in 2009. Most of our friends also live in temecula. Our preliminary location is Temecula, but i will be looking between RB and Temecula in August.

Ah. Should be more and more rentals available here in the next few months. House around the corner rented for $1250. 3/2 SS 1100 sq/ft.

Kloogy

Damn, if only I wasn't stubborn and unwilling to leave the Mission Valley area.

Sweet price, but that is sooooo far away from everything.

Yes, it is. MV is a cluster fuck though. Overpriced apartments and shitty traffic. You work down there though, right?

I rather drive a bit and live in piece and quiet.

I do. And any store transfers due to promotions would be all down here, as well. I guess I could transfer to another district, but I like the beach and the city life combined. There's just a huge price to pay to have it all. That's the sacrafice I make to enjoy living where I do, though.
