SanDiego01Snake 11-19-2006, 10:55 PM dayum..the cubs have been busy this offseason Kloogy 11-19-2006, 11:09 PM I'm just happy he won't be in the AL east. slayr281 11-20-2006, 03:53 AM oh, i'm so happy he's not going to be a phillie. all of the rumor mills said that the phillies were interested in him, but i can't fucking stand the guy. I think the Phils offered 5/73, but given the problem with Burrell, Gillick won't offer a No Trade Clause, ever. While he had a career year, he was only .231 RISP in 06 and two figures that scared me were his .309 OBP w/ 129ks in 05 and .324 OBO w/ 121ks in 04. For me, the Phils don't have any good right bats, the low RISP is not good enough to defend Howard or pop Utley or JRoll home, and way too much money to pay to have him lead-off with such high K's and low OBP. Plus, if he hits in a 4/5 slot, he won't have much of a chance to steal bases. G, I heard a rumor that the Yanks tried him out at like 5 positions when he was coming up, figuring 2b because he has no arm, that and the yanks had jeter, brosius, and williams and o'neal in the other potential spots which he was absolutely not competitive with. any truth? (acually, i'd figure so as most LF tend to be great bats and don't have long throws like RF and less ground than CF) 01silversnake 11-20-2006, 11:10 AM Ive been a Cubs fan my whole life and I still cant believe they are spending all tis money!!!After this past miserable season they need to spend some money. slayr281 11-20-2006, 05:15 PM Well, I hope it works out for them. Rumor has it that the Cubs are going to change him to centerfield and put him as leadoff. Perry is supposed to be a plate discipline coach, so hopefully he will raise his OBP significantly and learn to take a walk. Before last year, he only averaged about 30 walks and 120+ strikeouts. Hopefully the Cubs won't be like last year's Phillies. Best scoring team, horrible pitching, a lot of expectations, millions of disappointed fans. |
