OSU's Smith Tabbed Preseason Offensive Player Of Year

CHICAGO -- Ohio State University head coach Jim Tressel and members of the Buckeye football team traveled to Chicago on Tuesday to participate in the Big Ten Conference media day.

For two days, members of the media will be hearing from the Buckeyes and some of their conference rivals about the upcoming season.

On the first day of events, officials revealed that Ohio State was chosen as the preseason football favorite in a vote by media members attending the media day.

The Big Ten announces only the top three teams in its preseason poll, with Michigan in second place and Iowa in third.

The media members also honored Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith as the preseason offensive player of the year. Penn State linebacker Paul Posluszny took the title of preseason defensive player of the year.

The Buckeyes finished the 2005 season with a record of 10-2 and 7-1 in the conference.
